In Cameroon, MTN MoMo and Orange Money cover most consumer mobile money: offering both is enough to serve most of your customers. The two operators approve payments differently: MTN MoMo sends a request the customer confirms with a PIN, while Orange Money sends a one-time code by SMS that the customer types on your page. The API tells you which step to show.

Frequently asked questions
Which mobile money operators are available in Cameroon?
MTN MoMo and Orange Money, for collections and payouts alike. The current list, with how each operator approves payments (PIN or one-time code), is returned by GET /v1/operators?currency=XAF&country=CM.
Which country code and amount format should I use?
The country code is CM, the default for XAF, so the country field is optional. XAF amounts are whole units, with no decimals: "amount": 5000 means 5,000 XAF.
Does Orange Money in Cameroon require a code?
Yes. The customer receives a one-time code by SMS: the collection moves to requires_otp and you send the code with authorize. With MTN MoMo, the customer approves directly on their phone with their PIN.
Can I issue virtual cards to people living in Cameroon?
Yes. Virtual Visa and Mastercard dollar cards are issued to cardholders living in the countries we cover, Cameroon included. A card costs $1, funding it is free, and it works online wherever Visa or Mastercard is accepted.
