Which mobile money operators are available in Uganda?
MTN MoMo and Airtel Money, for collections and payouts alike. The current list, with how each operator approves payments (PIN or one-time code), is returned by GET /v1/operators?currency=UGX&country=UG.
Which country code and amount format should I use?
The country code is UG, the default for UGX, so the country field is optional. UGX amounts are whole units, with no decimals: "amount": 5000 means 5,000 UGX.
Do I need a website to collect in Uganda?
No. A Monerails payment link opens a page where your customer chooses MTN MoMo or Airtel Money, enters their number and approves. You share it by WhatsApp, SMS, email or QR code, and every payment shows up in your dashboard.
Can I issue virtual cards to people living in Uganda?
Yes. Virtual Visa and Mastercard dollar cards are issued to cardholders living in the countries we cover, Uganda included. A card costs $1, funding it is free, and it works online wherever Visa or Mastercard is accepted.
